MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) -- For those looking for jobs in Alabama, the state has a newly implemented resource that could help.

Thursday, Gov. Kay Ivey announced the state’s new Department of Workforce during an event in Montgomery. Leaders say this new department will revolutionize the way people go to work in Alabama.

“Many of our potential workers are sitting out the game," said Gov. Ivey. "Some are unable to suit up and join in the play due to personal barriers in their lives."

Whatever those barriers might be, Gov. Ivey said the Department of Workforce is there to help. She said Alabama has one of the lowest labor participation rates in the country at 57.8%.
