Firefighters are working to extinguish a large scrapyard fire in Osceola County hours after it broke out earlier Thursday, officials said.

The fire started at a scrapyard on Old Tampa Highway, according to Osceola County Fire Rescue spokesperson Joshua Holder, who said he was first informed of the fire around 11:30 a.m. The Kissimmee Fire Department and fire rescue crews from both Orange and Polk counties also responded to the scene in a multi-agency effort.

Holder said around 4:30 p.m. the fire was significant when compared in size to the average house fire, but that it was largely contained to the scrap pile and there was no immediate danger to any surrounding properties or structures. He also said there were no injuries.
