SWANSEA, Mass. —

A 14-year-old is facing charges after allegedly kicking and killing a staff member at the Meadowridge Academy in Swansea, Massachusetts, on Wednesday night.

Meadowridge Academy is a residential therapeutic school for youth and young adults.

The female juvenile was charged with assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III's office. She was arraigned in Fall River Juvenile Court on Thursday morning.

The district attorney's office says a physical altercation occurred between the 14-year-old student and staff around 6:55 p.m.

The teen was allegedly trying to leave a dorm building without permission.
