Cedar Falls standoff ends peacefully; suspect taken to hospital

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — A standoff unfolded Thursday afternoon along State Street in Cedar Falls, leading to a significant response from local authorities.

Craig Berte, the Cedar Falls Director of Public Safety, said first responders were called to the scene after reports that an individual was threatening to harm officers and themselves with a gun.

The suspect eventually emerged and was taken to the hospital. No gun was located at the scene, and no injuries were reported.

Nearby streets and homes were temporarily blocked off as a precaution.
