A woman was taken into custody Thursday evening after a 4-year-old boy, who is believed to be her son, died at an apartment building in Seattle’s Roosevelt neighborhood, according to police.

Officers initially responded to a welfare check shortly after 4 p.m. in the 6600 block of Roosevelt Way Northeast, said Robert Brown, acting assistant chief of patrol operations. They reportedly found a 45-year-old woman in crisis and the boy inside the unit where the call came from. Officers and Fire Department medics tried lifesaving measures on the child, but he died.

Police did not provide further details about the circumstances of the boy’s death. The woman is expected to be booked into the King County Jail.
