UNC football will try to get its first win against California in Bill Belichick 's first ACC road game.

The Tar Heels (2-3, 0-1 ACC) play Cal (4-2, 1-1) in Week 8 of the 2025 college football season on Friday, Oct. 17 (10:30 p.m., ESPN ) at California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley.

The programs played a home-and-home series in 2017-18, with the Golden Bears winning both games to take a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series. In its first season under coach Bill Belichick , UNC has lost its first three games against Power 4 teams by a program-record 87-point margin, outscored 120-33 in those matchups .
