BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Fall River’s police chief was in Boston to speak about the recent street takeovers in Massachusetts.

Chief Kelly Furtado dealt with a takeover earlier this month in Fall River.

Back on October 5, just after midnight, police say 200 people blocked the roadway at Davol and Central Streets .

People there were doing burnouts and donuts and setting off fireworks in the street.

It wasn’t as bad as a display we saw in Boston earlier this month , but is a trend Governor Maura Healey and Chief Furtado would like to see end.

Governor Healey announced $14 million in safety grants Thursday to help communities across Massachusetts combat street takeovers.
