There’s much at stake tonight as the Monterey Plainsmen (4-3, 2-1) welcome in the Tascosa Rebels (4-2, 3-0). Both teams have exchanged wins over Lubbock High and Coronado in recent weeks. A win for the Plainsmen would up their position in an already-contentious district. In order for that to happen, Monterey will have to stop Tascosa’s signature triple-option defense.
“We’re going to have to do a great job of slowing down their triple option. We can’t let them play keep-away from our offense,” said Plainsmen head coach Jason Sims. “We’re going to have to be efficient on offense and not think that we’re going to just ‘big play’ them to death. That’s not what’s going to happen. You’re going to have to be efficient, move the ball, and not turn the ball over.
