SIKESTON, Mo. (KFVS) - The SEMO Major Case Squad has been activated to investigate a homicide in Sikeston.

According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety (DPS), gunshots were detected by the ShotSpotter system around 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, on the 400 block of East Gladys Street. Shortly after the alert, dispatch received several phone calls about gunshots in the same area.

Officers learned that a gunshot victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but the victim later died from their injuries.

Police said the name of the victim is not being released at this time because of their age and the privacy of the victim’s family.

They said more information may be released at a later time.
