Huge amounts of cash were smuggled through Manchester Airport hidden inside DVD cases by men who 'played a key role' in an organised crime gang, the Crown Prosecution Service has revealed.
Six men have now been convicted of money laundering and are awaiting sentence.
Two export consignments were seized at Manchester Airport and found to contain £430,925 in cash, but the CPS said between £10 and £15 million could have been smuggled through the airport and others over an earlier five month-long period.
Cash was exported to Dubai in air freight consignments through Manchester, Birmingham and Heathrow airports by a fake company called Express Logistics Fulfillment Ltd, the CPS said. It said the bogus firm had 'no legitimate business' and operated from three different premises
