A Sarnia-Lambton woman has been sentenced to two years of house arrest for dangerous driving after a crash in Lambton Shores that nearly killed her and seriously injured her daughter.

“This was a tragic occurrence. The facts are horrendous,” Justice Paul Kowalyshyn said recently during sentencing.

The woman and her young daughter were heading north on Lakeshore Road near Ipperwash Beach and Port Franks in her 2017 Jeep Compass on July 15, 2024 around 10:30 p.m. The woman, who won’t be named to protect her daughter’s identity, wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was driving 119 km/h, nearly double the 60 km/h limit in that area of Lakeshore Road. Her daughter was wearing a seatbelt in the front passenger seat while they headed to a restaurant in Grand Bend, the court heard.
