TRINITY, N.C. — A student at Hopewell Elementary School was found with a “target list” on campus at the end of the school day Monday, according to Randolph County Schools Superintendent Stephen Gainey.

The principal and the school’s resource officer immediately addressed the situation, including speaking with the student involved, Gainey said. The principal also contacted the parents of each student whose name appeared on the list to make them aware of the situation.

“The administration of the school and the leadership of the school system will continue to address any issues of this nature in the future to maintain safe conditions on campus,” Gainey said in a statement.
