A Sarnia-area First Nation man has been sentenced to nine months in jail and ordered to pay about $1,500 in cleanup costs after smearing his blood all over a jail cell.

“You do need to be held responsible. This will hopefully allow you to give your head a shake and realize that it’s not just jail time, it’s now starting to cost you money,” Justice Paul Kowalyshyn said to Christopher Oliver.

Oliver, 33, was arrested on Feb. 26 after an altercation on Kettle and Stony Point First Nation. At Anishinabek police headquarters, he threatened to throw his feces at an officer who checked on him and later smashed his head on the cell door until he bled and smeared the blood on various surfaces.

Kowalyshyn said the facts in that incident were concerning and disturbing.
