The federal government shutdown that began on October 1, 2025, has continued into its third week, placing it among the longest shutdowns in U.S. history.
The record still stands at 35 days, from December 2018 to January 2019, also under the Trump administration.
As the shutdown drags on, questions remain about what members of Congress are doing during this period of federal gridlock.
Delaware State Representative Sarah McBride says her office remains fully operational.
“My office is running on all cylinders,” says McBride. “Our constituent advocates are continuing to take requests and help people with their needs—whether it’s backlogged tax returns, Social Security checks, or veterans’ benefits.”
