A flag with a pink ribbon now flies at the New Castle County Government Center to spread awareness about breast cancer.
Many elected officials, county employees and guests wore pink for Friday's ceremony.
They included Kathleen Green, a county employee who is now a five-year cancer survivor. She said more success stories can be attributed to early detection, improved treatments and community support.
"This disease touches countless lives: mothers, daughters, sisters, friends and even men," Green said.
County Council President Monique Williams-Johns shared the story of her own 77-year-old mother-in-law, who was diagnosed just weeks before getting married for the first time.
