The demolition of the former General Hospital is set to begin Monday.

Mayor Matthew Shoemaker announced on social media that the demolition permit has been issued.

“GFL is on site and will begin hauling away the rubble. About 10 loads per day are expected to be removed over the next two to three weeks, clearing the way for demolition after that,” his post reads.

While it took about 10 months for the deal between the city, Green Infrastructure Partners (GIP) and Ruscio Construction to be completed, GIP had been working on the interior of the facility for months.

The demolition work, which was promised to begin within 12 months of the deal closure, is to be completed within 12 months, “subject only to unavoidable delays,” council had been told.
