WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - The rush for gold continues with prices for the precious metal topping $4,300 per troy ounce for the first time this week.

Gold prices have gone up 55 percent this year.

Silver has seen an even bigger percentage jump year to date. Silver futures are up about 70 percent, trading at over $50 per troy ounce Friday morning.

“Literally skyrocketing. They’ve both blown right through historical, you know, tops,” said Scott Brown, owner of Kimberly-Scott Creations in Watertown.

Brown says that he’s seen more people coming into his jewelry store looking to get in on the higher prices. He has bought old silver coins, silver dinnerware, as well as gold and silver jewelry.
