OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Last week, the National Weather Service issued a La Niña Advisory .

This means that La Niña conditions have been recorded to our west in the Pacific Ocean, and are expected to continue into this winter, from December through February.

La Niña conditions exist when there is a negative sea surface temperature of -0.5° C (0.9° F) or less for one month in a specific part of the Pacific Ocean, the Niño 3.4 region .

The influence of La Niña is expected to be weak, at least for the Omaha area. If we do have any impacts, this could mean we may see cooler temperatures this winter, with the greatest chance of below average temperatures to our northwest.

La Niña is also associated with bringing wetter conditions to our east and dry and warm weather to the south.
