LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - The next member of the Nebraska Supreme Court will likely come from Omaha.
The Judicial Nominating Commission advanced Patrick Guinan and Derek Vaughn, both of Omaha, as the top candidates to fill the vacancy.
Governor Jim Pillen will make the final choice between the two.
The vacancy comes as Justice Lindsey Miller-Lerman is set to retire at the end of this month . She has served in the role since 1998 and was the first woman on the Nebraska Supreme Court.
This marks the second retirement of a Nebraska Supreme Court justice in two years.
