MONTEREY, Calif. — A California aquarium re-released a vintage sea otter T-shirt on Thursday, raising more than $2.1 million after "Swifties" hunted down the design.
The fundraiser and re-print of the decades-old Monterey Bay Aquarium T-shirt design came after pop star Taylor Swift wore it in the movie release "Official Release Party of a Showgirl." The shirt was also featured on an Instagram account highlighting parts of Swift's wardrobe.
The design is from the 1990s, but the aquarium brought it back after seeing Swift's impact and the mass interest.
"We saw a wave of $13 donations to support our sea otter program and other ocean conservation work," the aquarium wrote in a statement.
