NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Part of Interstate 26 westbound in North Charleston will close Saturday as crews perform bridge repairs.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is closing the westbound lanes near Eagle Drive starting at 10 p.m., according to the North Charleston Police Department.
The area is expected to remain closed until Sunday morning. Drivers are asked to avoid the area during this time.
While the closure is in effect, all I-26 westbound traffic between I-526 and Ashley Phosphate Road will have to use Rivers Avenue as a detour, the department said.
Crews are repairing the Eagle Drive bridge after it was struck by a truck carrying an excavator earlier in October.
Digital message boards and detour signs will be posted to alert drivers of the changes
