SWANSEA, Mass. (WCVB) – A 14-year-old girl is facing charges after allegedly kicking a staff member at a residential therapeutic school for youth and young adults that led to the staff member’s death.

It happened at the Meadowridge Academy in Swansea, Massachusetts, on Wednesday night.

According to the county district attorney, the teen was trying to leave a dorm building without permission.

Investigators say 53-year-old Amy Morrell was trying to restrain the teen when the teen kicked her in the chest.

Morrell collapsed to the floor, and staff immediately began CPR and called 911.

Morrell was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead on Thursday.

The teen has been charged with assault and battery causing serious bodily injury.

The investigation remains ongoing.
