PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The obesity epidemic that has long plagued the United States may be showing signs of improvement, but not in Oregon.

New data show that Oregon’s adult obesity rate increased by more than any other state between 2019 and 2024, according to the State of Obesity 2025 report from Trust for America’s Health.

Rates of obesity climbed by more than 16% in Oregon during the five-year period, and were driven mostly by younger people. According to the report, the state ranks seventh for the highest obesity rate for ages 18 to 24.

Oregon’s adult obesity rate climbed to 33.5% in 2024. Compared with the rest of the country, the state ranks 28th for the number of adults with obesity.
