KILAUEA, Hawaii (Island News) -- A man was arrested following an illegal fireworks blast in a Kilauea neighborhood on Friday morning.

The Kauai Police Department (KPD) responded to reports of an explosion in Kilauea at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 17. Witnesses told police that a man fled the scene immediately after the blast.

Surveillance footage revealed that the suspect, who was identified as a 24-year-old man, ignited what appeared to be an aerial firework in the front yard of a home. The firework flew out of control and landed under a parked SUV before it exploded.

The man was arrested for second-degree reckless endangering and his bail was set at $1,000.

There were no injuries reported from the incident.
