TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - October 17 is now officially recognized as "Arnwine Family Fight For Justice Day" in Tucson. This day, established by Mayor Regina Romero, supports the Arnwine family's ongoing efforts to reclaim their ancestral land and seek justice for past injustices.
The Arnwine family, descendants of Gracie Arnwine, a woman formerly enslaved by Albartis Arnwine, is fighting for the return of land promised in Albartis's 1855 will. Despite the will, the family never received the land due to a legal contest by Albartis's relatives.
