SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The historic turret clock on the Masonic Building in Springfield lit up for the first time in 30 years on Friday night, marking a significant milestone in the city's redevelopment efforts.
The lighting of the clock is part of a $70 million redevelopment project led by McCaffery Interests, which aims to revitalize four buildings on Main, State, and Stockbridge Streets. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2027.
"These time pieces were center pieces for the people who live and worked in downtown," said Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno.
"Really the dreams and aspirations of the city and the Springfield Redevelopment Authority are why we're here," said Edmund Woodbury, President of McCaffery Interests.
