SPRING, Texas (KTRK) -- A 27-year-old woman is charged with murdering her stepmother, shooting her to death at her Spring home Friday morning.

Just before 11 a.m., the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office said a man working on the victim's pool on Hannover Forest heard five gunshots coming from inside the house.

When deputies arrived, they said they found the victim, 69-year-old Kathy Brown, dead in the kitchen with multiple gunshot wounds.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the only other person in the house was the victim's stepdaughter, Dakayla Dailey.

Neighbors mourned the loss of the slain woman.

"She was kind to everyone on the street. She always had a good thing to say to everybody, so it's quite a shock," Deena Collins said.
