WARREN, Arkansas — A south Arkansas town has been in shock after learning of the death of a resident at a state care facility.

It happened at the Southeast Arkansas Human Development Center in Warren on September 7, 2025, after staff used physical and chemical restraints.

The Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) announced Friday that one employee has been fired and eleven others have been placed on leave due to the death, which Warren Mayor Gregg Reep said was a shock.

“Our community's always been very proud to have it [the facility] here because of the people they're serving,” Reep said. “And yes, it's a big employer.”

While the city doesn’t run the facility, Reep said he’s been there from time to time and has only heard good things.
