Hunter Simmons loves golf.

It’s been a huge part of his life.

The Grand Junction senior came into high school with mammoth expectations tagging along.

Over the years, the Tigers have had some great golfers — including the past 26 years, which is how long Tom LeFebre has been coaching the boys golf team.

But something happened in early September that LeFebre never thought he would ever see.

The love of golf had disappeared for Simmons.

Golf is fickle. One bad swing can ruin a round. One bad putt can make someone want to throw a putter into a pond.

For Simmons, it was more than a couple of bad shots, it was a game that went completely off the rails, and quickly.

On Sept. 2, Simmons shot a 79.
