YORK COUNTY — The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office will open its doors on Oct. 20 to hold a free community forum on the dangers of vaping.

Vaping is the act of inhaling and exhaling vapor, produced by an electronic cigarette or similar device. These devices heat a liquid, often containing nicotine, flavorings, and other chemicals into an aerosol that users breathe in. While vaping is sometimes marketed as a safer alternative to traditional smoking, it still carries health risks. The vapor can contain harmful substances like heavy metals, volatile organic compounds, and ultrafine particles that can damage the lungs and cardiovascular system. Nicotine in e-cigarettes is also highly addictive and can affect brain development in teens and young adults.
