Former West Midlands Mayor Sir Andy Street said the decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv from the team's fixture against Aston Villa next month was 'shameful'.

Pressure has been mounting to overturn a ban on Maccabi supporters attending the Europa League match at Villa Park on November 6.

The decision by authorities in Birmingham to ban fans of the Israeli side was made public on Thursday night. West Midlands Police classified the fixture as high-risk based on 'current intelligence and previous incidents'.

The force pointed to violent clashes and hate crime offences which happened during the 2024 Uefa Europa League match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv in Amsterdam.
