The relationship between Canada and its Indigenous peoples took centre stage in downtown St. Catharines Thursday night with a live performance of Gord Downie’s album “Secret Path.”
The 2016 concept album tells the story of Chanie Wenjack, a young Anishinaabe boy from the Marten Falls First Nation who died in 1966 while trying to return home after escaping from an Indian residential school.
The concert, accompanied by the animated film of the same name, was led by Joe Lapinski + Band with Minuscule, The Dinner Is Ruined Band, Sleepy Jean, Rita & The Daydreamers, James Underwood, Zoë Taraba-Blair and Carly Greavette (with Darwin Csoli), Abby Cabaj and Gibby Ring.
