Firing Boro 2-0 in front against Ipswich Town, it was the culmination of ten months of hard work with little reward. Such a regular goalscorer previously at Plymouth Argyle, for many reasons, some of which have not been in his control, Whittaker had just not been able to get going at Boro.

Whether this first goal for the club can prove the catalyst for him to now finally show the quality he has is something that we’ll only learn in time.
