HANNIBAL (WGEM) - One hundred trail runners are preparing to test their mettle in a new race near Sodalis Nature Preserve.

Race Director Scott Bridgeman has taken part in races across the country, including the famed Boston Marathon, but he’s eager to introduce participants to the scenery and wildlife in his own backyard.

“I’m very passionate about nature, outdoor activities, endurance, sports, and community, and I felt like this was a good way to tie all those things together,” Bridgeman explained.

Enjoying nature was not Bridgeman’s only motivation in starting the race. Registration proceeds all go to scholarship funds honoring two Hannibal residents, Evan and Hannah, who lost their lives to suicide and had portions of the trails at Sodalis Nature Preserve named in their memory.
