Is your basement apartment legal?

The Town of Milton is holding a virtual information session Oct. 21 to inform residents about the new rules and regulations around additional residential units (ARUs).

Staff from Milton Fire and Rescue Services, bylaw enforcement and the building division will be on hand to provide information and answer questions about self-contained living spaces such as basement apartments, garden suites and granny flats.

The meeting is a direct result of council’s Sept. 8 meeting where a motion directed staff to extend the compliance deadline to a new date to be determined and to increase communication for the ARU registration program introduced April 1 .
