LANCASTER, S.C. (WBTV) - Breast cancer accounts for around 30% of all female cancers in the U.S. each year, according to the American Cancer Society.

This October, health care professionals are working to get people educated and get them screened early. The American Cancer Society recommends that women begin mammogram testing at 40 years old.

Julia Boone is a nurse practitioner at MUSC Health Lancaster in South Carolina, and has been in the MUSC Health Care system for years. Most of her family is in medicine.

“The thought of caring for others is what really probably ultimately turned me on to this,” Boone said.

Around this time last year, just after her 40th birthday, she had an annual doctor’s visit.
