Two people died in a fiery crash on U.S. 287 between Fort Collins and Wyoming on Friday, closing the two-lane highway for several hours, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
At 6:18 p.m. Friday, the Colorado State Patrol responded to a crash involving a Honda Accord and a Chevrolet Suburban on U.S. 287 at Red Mountain Road. Just minutes before the crash, a resident had dialed 911 to report the driver of the Honda as a possible drunken driver, according to a release from the Colorado State Patrol.
Investigators report that the Suburban was headed south on U.S. 287 when the Honda veered from the northbound lane into the southbound lane, the release states. Trying to avoid the crash, the driver of the Suburban swerved and struck a guardrail before the two vehicles crashed head-on.
