For the fourth straight year, Berthoud will play in the Class 4A state softball tournament.

The Spartans rebounded from an opening-round loss in their Class 4A Site 1 regional to win back-to-back games Saturday in Windsor and advance to state.

Berthoud opened the day with an 8-5 loss to Golden to drop to the consolation bracket. There, the Spartans defeated Green Mountain 9-1 to earn another matchup against Golden with a state tournament berth on the line.

The Spartans (16-10) jumped on Golden early, scoring 13 runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back enroute to a 13-1 victory and a spot in next weekend’s 4A state tournament at Aurora Sports Park.

In Class 3A, Resurrection Christian was eliminated in the first round of the Site 2 regional in Eaton on Saturday.
