LAKE MONTEZUMA, AZ (AZFamily) — A motorcyclist was seriously hurt after reportedly colliding with a javelina on a rural road in northern Arizona on Wednesday night.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) deputies responded to Cornville Road and Kimberleys Way , a rural intersection northwest of Interstate 17, just after 8:30 p.m.

Deputies found the rider on the ground, receiving medical attention before he was airlifted to a hospital in Flagstaff.

A witness told police they saw a javelina run into the road before the rider swerved to avoid the animal. However, the biker appeared to strike it, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle and leave the roadway, according to police.

Investigators noted they found what appeared to be animal hair on the motorcycle’s front forks.
