For what feels like the first time this season, the San Francisco 49ers have good injury news.
Pro Bowl tight end George Kittle has been activated from injured reserve (IR) and is expected to play on "Sunday Night Football" against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7.
Kittle injured his hamstring in the 49ers' season opener against the Seattle Seahawks while running a deep route early in the second quarter. In just 20 minutes of game time, Kittle had tallied four catches for 25 yards and a touchdown.
Kittle missed the following five games as the 49ers went 3-2 in that stretch. With him out, the 49ers relied on other tight ends on the roster, primarily Jake Tonges. The former undrafted free agent has 25 catches for 224 yards and three touchdowns this season.
Kittle is one of multiple pass-catchers who have missed time for San Francisco so far this season. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall won't suit up on Sunday for the third week in a row due to a knee injury. Jauan Jennings missed time with multiple injuries and Marquez Valdes-Scantling was put on IR earlier this week with a calf injury.
Demarcus Robinson returned to the lineup earlier this season after serving a three-game suspension. Brandon Aiyuk is still recovering from last year's knee injury and remains on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
Kittle will return this week but will catch passes from a different quarterback. Starter Brock Purdy is out once again this week and Mac Jones is starting for the fifth time this season. Purdy suffered multiple injuries against the Seahawks in Week 1 and made a return in Week 4 before returning to the injury report once again.
