DAVENPORT, Iowa — Protests across the Quad Cities joined a national wave of “No Kings” demonstrations Saturday, part of a coordinated movement criticizing President Donald Trump’s leadership and warning of what organizers call an erosion of democratic checks and balances.

The rallies coincide with the 18th day of a government shutdown and what national organizers describe as a test of American democracy. The protests — spanning more than 2,600 locations nationwide — are the third mass mobilization since Trump’s return to the White House, following earlier demonstrations this year over the administration’s policies and executive actions.
