MOORHEAD — St. John's leaned on its hometown connection early in the game Saturday, even though the Johnnies were the visiting team at Jake Christiansen Stadium.
Moorhead's Trey Feeney and West Fargo's Carson Hegerle combined on a long pass in the first quarter, followed by a short pitch-and-catch for a TD. That Feeney-to-Hegerle score helped spark the No. 10-ranked Johnnies to a 41-6 victory against the Concordia Cobbers in MIAC football before 3,807 fans.
“It was really a special feeling," said Hegerle, who along with Feeney played their high school football in the Fargo-Moorhead area. "I have a lot of family and friends here. It’s kind of like a homecoming."
