WAIKIKI, Hawaii (Island News) -- A man was taken to the hospital after he was struck by a car overnight in a hit-and-run accident in Waikiki on Saturday.

The pedestrian crash took place at about 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 18 on Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki. Police said a 44-year-old man who was walking in a marked crosswalk near the intersection of Kalakaua Avenue and Pau Street was hit by a car.

The driver, later identified as a 20-year-old man, continued driving eastbound on Kalakaua Avenue without stopping.

An ambulance took the pedestrian to the emergency room in critical condition.

The driver was located and arrested for collisions involving death or serious bodily injury.

The accident led to a partial road closure for nearly two hours.
