Australia swimming ace Mollie O’Callaghan has stunned the World Cup in Westmont, becoming the first woman to swim a sub 1:50 200m freestyle.

O’Callaghan, 21, blew away her rivals with a new world short-course mark of 1:49.77, swimming a second faster than she did last weekend in Carmel when she recorded a personal best.

The time bettered Hong Kong’s Sioban Haughey previous short-course record that was set in 2021 in Abu Dhabi.

It was one-two for Australia with Lani Pallister coming in second with a time of 1:52.06.

“I had a great support team behind me and I had to trust my gut at the end of the day,” O’Callaghan said.
