ROCHESTER HILLS – Romeo waited some 51 weeks to avenge Rochester Adams in a state tournament setting.
The Bulldogs also waited 38 years to beat the Highlanders again on the soccer pitch.
Fourth-ranked Romeo edged defending state champion Adams 1-0 Saturday in a Division 1 district finals match at Rochester High School – a payback to when the Highlanders defeated Romeo 1-0 in the regional finals last season as part of their state championship run.
As for the last time that Romeo even defeated Adams in the sport of boys soccer, one would have to go back to the Class A district semifinals in 1987 when the Bulldogs upset then-state-ranked Rochester Adams, 4-1. That was 38 years ago this month.
