GAUTIER, Miss. (WLOX) - The Mullet Festival is a tradition that’s been going on for 35 years in Gautier.

Honoring coastal roots, fresh seafood was up for grabs from local vendors lining the way.

Michigan Native Mary Jane Chaffan said this festival took her by suprise.

“We thought it as mullet like the haircut. We thought we would see people walking around with mullets,” Chaffan said. “Nope, it’s fish. It’s pretty cool.”

Gautier Resident Raven Andrews said a lot of people from the community get involved with the event.

“You see a lot of people that you know through school and work,” Andrews said. “I didn’t know I was actually supposed to throw a real fish so that was kind of scary a little bit.”

And of course, the flying fish are a sight to see, bringing people back year after year
