A growing anger among Gilbert residents towards council members over the town’s handling of the issues related to water bill spikes threatened to spill over into violence last week at Town Council’s meeting.

For the last few months, Gilbert residents have been posting complaints on social media about their sharply soaring utility bills, some over a few hundred dollars, and others in the thousands.

Some citizens blame the faulty meters the town of Gilbert has installed for the issue, while others say that the new town utility bill portal roll-out was completely botched.

Still others blame the three-year phased water rate hikes the council voted to implement in early 2024 and that took effect in April.
