New Hampshire households are bringing in more money than those in most states, according to a new ranking by online finance publication Visual Capitalist.

The list ranks all 50 states by 2024 median household income , with the Granite State coming in sixth at $99,782 – $18,178 above the national median of $81,604.

The publication determined that the highest-earning states are concentrated on the coasts and that the southern states lag behind the national median. However, if Washington, D.C. were a state, it would outrank them all with a household income of $109,707.

Visual Capitalist based its list on data from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey , which collects social, economic, housing, and demographic information from households across the country.
