A British mum has died after suffering a severe illness while staying at what they claim was an "unhygienic" hotel during a luxury holiday in Cape Verde. Elena Walsh, 64, was staying at the five-star Riu Cabo Verde resort in Sal to celebrate her husband's 60th birthday and their son's engagement.

But a week into the £5,000 holiday the part-time nurse fell ill with symptoms including sickness and diarrhoea as well as heavy sweats. Two days later she was dead.
