Lucknow, Oct 19: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday triggered a political storm after questioning the government’s spending on Diwali celebrations and drawing parallels with Christmas festivities across the world.

Speaking at a public gathering, Yadav said, “Across the world, cities remain illuminated for months during Christmas. We should learn from them. Why do we have to spend money on lamps and candles and think so much about it?” He further added, “What can we expect from this government? It should be removed. We will make sure there are more beautiful lights.”

His comments came as Ayodhya prepared to set a world record by lighting over 26 lakh diyas across Ram Ki Paidi and 56 ghats, showcasing the city’s spiritual grandeur.
